Hello! I have been with Desoto County Schools for over two decades. My first DCS job was at Southaven High, where I taught 11th and 12th grade English, Mythology, and Journalism. Two years in, I was offered the chance to teach Cooperative Education, the class that eventually became Work-Based Learning. I was also the yearbook advisor, Senior class sponsor, and Blood Drive coordinator at SHS for several years.

Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked in the corporate world for Holiday Inn. I developed keen business skills as a reservation agent before being named Secretary to the Comptroller. Later, I was appointed Facilities Coordinator for the corporate office. The skills I learned in those early years prepared me to teach WBL, where teaching students how to advance in the business world has become a necessity to ensure student success.

When my boys were young, I decided to pursue a career in the field of education at the University of Mississippi. I graduated summa cum laude, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education. I later added an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership. I fell in love with teaching high school students. I feel I have a good rapport with teens and connect with them in ways that make learning fun and effective.

In 2023, I transferred to Desoto Central High, where I continue to offer the same personal business guidance to help students find their career pathways. Two of my former students have opened successful businesses in Silo Square. Lauren McKenzie Norton, owner of Ultimate Gifts, and Kevin Patel, owner of Sippin’ Silo, are two of my former students who are living their career dreams. I am proud to connect my students with experiences where they can pursue what they love to do and find success in the working world!

My husband and I reside in Southaven. We have raised three grown sons who all live in Desoto County with their families. We have two granddaughters and have another grandchild on the way! I am proud to represent DCS, and I look forward to meeting the next generation of students who wish to pursue their career goals!
